Several anonymous sources corroborate that Mr Hill was in fact a local man, and that he was known to have assaulted several children in the area.

Leigh's inclusion of such a piece in her primer may seem distasteful, but I believe it is a sign of the pastoral care she took over her pupils, as well as her willingness to engage with darker aspects of life in Seaton Snook.
